Since 1997, our organization, CUIP (the Chicago Public Schools | University of Chicago Internet Project), has worked with 40 different Chicago Public Schools towards supporting their efforts to improve students’ education through the integration of technology resources into their curriculum and school cultures. We provide consultation to teachers and school administrators in technology curriculum integration, professional development, and classroom project support, as well as providing general technical support to the schools. Our school-based efforts are mostly focused in the neighborhoods of: Woodlawn, North Kenwood/Oakland, Hyde Park, Bronzeville, and South Shore, where we partner with the University of Chicago’s Neighborhood Schools Program (NSP) to pair University students with school technology programs. We also collaborate closely with the Chicago Public Schools Office of Academic Enhancement (CPS OAE) on their Technology Magnet Cluster program which infuses technology resources and training in elementary schools across the city. In addition to our direct work in the schools, CUIP has created online resources that are freely available to all (Chicago WebDocent http://cwd.uchicago.edu/ and eCUIP the Digital Library http://ecuip.lib.uchicago.edu/).
